3D DWG to Sketchup

Ezicad can now convert 3D DWG solids to SketchUp entities. In Acad or similar these are represented as either solids, regions or body’s.

The picture on left is from Bricscad Pro and is the model of a toroid and a sphere.

Ezicad can tessellate the appropriate entry’s and convert to a series of SketchUp faces for rendering in Sketchup.

Layer Feature Table – Closed Polylines.

Ezicad now contains a “layer feature table” In the picture shown this works on any closed DWG polylines found. For example in the table shown look at line 4. Any closed polylines found on layer “BEAM2″ have a vertical offset of 2.7 meters applied. Furthermore the face is also extruded a distance of 0.15 meters. If offset has only the one entry then this distance is applied to each point in the face. You also have the option of specifying a vertical offset for each point. For example look at line 5. Each entry is separated by a comma. This also works for the extrusion column.

This effectively translates our 2D CAD design into the 3D Sketchup format. The process can be repeated iteratively before continuing with SketchUp.

We have now officially released Ezicad. We are pushing this product as a conduit between the myriad of free or low cost CAD packages now appearing (for example DraftSight) and the free version of Sketchup.

Sketchup no longer includes a DWG import routine.

Ezicad will open any valid DWG/DXF and create the appropriate SKP file which can be opened by SketchUp. Please download and trial our program.

If there are any entities that are not being successfully transferred please let us know. We intend to continue development.
